Gas brazing skills preferred. The original Whirlwind wheelchair was developed in Nicaragua and the Philippines. Over three hundred mechanics have been trained in the manufacture of the Whirlwind and fabrication is taking place in 33 shops in 25 countries worldwide. This course is designed for both beginning and advanced designers and fabricators. Working as a team, students build a wheelchair from scratch, learning metal fabrication and small scale manufacturing techniques, how to fit a person to a wheelchair and design the cushion, and seating angles for proper support. Class size is limited. Extra materials fee of $60 payable to Whirlwind Wheelchair International at first meeting.
